Steam Valley Fiber Farm raises Colored Angora Goats, Border Leicester Sheep and Nubian Goats. We farm sustainably, feeding our livestock certified organic grain and minerals, local hay, pasture and maintain herd health using nutrition, herbs and homeopathy. Our herd/flock goals are to raise fine fleeced animals that are vigorous and have parasite resistance.
Our 2012 Angora herdsires are Kid Hollow's Patrick, a red buck who sired many brown kids this year and Persimmon Tree Farm's TinMan, a black buck who was also the 2011 herdsire. We are now accepting reservations for the 2012 Angora kids.
Harry Potter, our flocksire for 2012, is a black Border Leicester ram from Glenfidditch Farm in Mansfield, PA. Steam Valley's ewes are Border Leicester crosses with Corriedale and Jacob in some of their backgrounds. They provide excellent spinning fleeces for our roving blends, yarn and socks. Our sheep flock has a successful history of parasite resistance. We have black and white ewe, ram and wether lambs available for sale.
Five Nubian does are bred to the new herdsire, Phoenix, a registered black and white yearling buck. The Nubian does due dates are spread from February to May, so check back to see the latest additions. Our goal is to dam raise our Nubian kids, but the high incidence of triplets means we sometimes have bottle babies for sale as well. Our Nubians are tested biannually and are CAE free.
